One Step
On Collecting Time related performance
Mar 9-22, 2022
Nam June Paik Art Center shed light on the art world of the participating artists from various angles related to the exhibition On Collecting Time. We hold an opening performance, One Step, with participating artists Park Seungwon and laumcon as one of the many questions about On Collecting Time. One Step is a performance art and an installation work which visitors can participate. During this performance, the audience steps on everyday objects installed in Random Access Hall. When we lightly step on a dining table, desk, steamer, dustpan, etc., the installed lights transform the space. The artists say that the world looks different when we step up, and a small action can become a big action that may cause a crack in the existing order. Because it is taboo to step on a dining table, and it is not easy to step on an object considered a work of art in an exhibition hall. However, when visitors step on the objects, they will light up and encourage visitors’ small but big actions.
Performance
Three performers will participate in the performances held on March 9 and 11. They act at different paces and rhythms based on the characteristics of each one’s body. A slow walk with a cane, a movement of running among objects while wearing a monkey mask, and a gesture that boasts a graceful curvaceous beauty. The three people’s ordinary, but, in some ways, dull acts will show a choreography that harmonizes the rhythm of their bodies and lights.
