Ecology for Non-Future
Ecology for Non-Future starts from the tension between the ecological environment and the future promised by technology. Animals that have lost their habitat due to forest fires, animals strangely captured during colonial/modern times, unidentified presences, and synthetic images are collected as a dataset, and this dataset is used to create new non-beings through generative neural networks. These non-beings emerge as almost nothing but stains or the shape of domestic animals during the process of machine learning, and this work, which uses generative neural networks such as GAN as a critical observation technique for ecological crisis, crosses the boundary between virtual vision and reality, and speaks about the future beyond ecological crisis and human time.

Nam June Paik Art Center shed light on the art world of the participating artists from various angles related to the exhibition On Collecting Time. We hold an opening performance, Ecology for Non-Future, with participating artists Unmake Lab as one of the many questions about On Collecting Time.
Unmake Lab
Unmake Lab irrelevantly uses the recognition of the machine to change the algorithm obsession into an irony, fable, and a touch of humor. Especially, its interest lies in overlapping the developmentalism history of Asia and the extractivism of machine learning to depict the current sociocultural and ecological situation. With educational activities that comprehend technosociety as a major methodology, it participates in activities such as Forking Room for discussion and research.
