Nam June Paik Exhibition Studies
Jul 18 — Aug 29, 2020
Even if it is not possible to have face-to-face sympathetic dialogue, our learning, i.e., our attempts to read the present through art will not stop. In 2020, amid the unexpected refraction of time and space under the pandemic, the NJP Academy is presented with the lecture series Nam June Paik Exhibition Studies. We would like to continue to communicate with the museum audience by studying together in the era of ‘distancing,’ where you can feel the strangeness experienced when visitors to Nam June Paik’s first exhibition in 1963 passed through its entrance where a cow’s blood was dripping.
In the 2020 NJP Academy, Nam June Paik Exhibition Studies, you can think about Paik’s art through exhibitions, to understand him by analyzing and critiquing his exhibitions that have historical significance, including Paik’s first solo exhibition Exposition of Music Electronic Television. In addition, from the beginning to the end of this course, Paik’s life and work are dealt with in depth, and the interpretations of Nam June Paik Art Center on the artist through curatorial research over the past 10 years are offered.
Nam June Paik Exhibition Studies will be held online for 2 hours from 10:30 am on Saturdays for seven weeks from July 18 to August 29, 2020. Each lecture will take place in an online classroom for 40 students, and its live streaming will also be provided at the same time.
