Three Elements: Circle

Three Elements, which debuted at The Worlds of Nam June Paik held at the New York Guggenheim Museum in 2000, was produced by Paik in collaboration with the laser installation expert Norman Ballard. The work symbolizes the image of water, fire, and earth in the form of a triangle, circle, and square. The speedy and incessant laser introduces a dynamic and mystical vision to the viewers. Paik’s laser works — in which the non-linear time and space that the artist had been experimenting with all his life through music, TVs, and video expand to infinity — present a macro-vision that seeks communication with the world, even the cosmos at large, through electronic media.
